This is the most terrible book I’ve ever seen and I just wasted about $15.

I’ve got the worst habit of chewing my nails. The rest of what the book says… I just don’t care. I want more information on my habit then ones I don’t know (and shouldn’t know) anything about. Try to find a book that focuses most on your habits (and not just a bunch crammed into one book).

I don’t really like the title much either (The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Breaking Bad Habits).

… I am not an idiot.

Trying to break a bad habit is never easy but this book is a good start and worth every penny of the cost. There is a sense of humor, “you-can-make it” spirit and surprising amount of basic behavioral information. I have used it in counseling and as a self help guide. If you are really motivated to start some positive change in your life, invest in this book!

I find some people’s comments on this book very bizarre – it’s not supposed to be enjoyable, and if you take offense to being called an idiot…well, you need to lighten up. There’s a whole line of books called the Idiot’s Guides, and I highly doubt that every consumer of those books thinks themselves an idiot. You also have to realize that this book deals with a very sensitive subject, and if you don’t get yourself in the proper mindset, then your habit isn’t going to quit itself on its own. Breaking a bad habit is hard work, and you have to be dedicated to it. You can’t expect that just reading a book will make you quit smoking. Once I really started to synthesize what this book was telling me, I found it much easier to quit my bad habit, than all previous attempts combined. In fact, I had been doing my bad habit for well over 10 years, and I was able to quit it after reading this book.

I found this book very helpful as a place to start in breaking bad habits. “Bad habits die hard” and the authors present an easy and non-intimidating forum to examine bad habits, where they start, and how to stop them. Of course, some bad habits take more than an introductory book to help break them, but the authors’ warm and encouraging words help to provide a good place to get started. It’s a great book for anyone who’s having trouble sticking to his or her New Year’s resolutions!
